The Priory Centre at night

The town of St. Neots grew up around a Benedictine Priory that was re-built in the early 11 th century. It replaced a small Anglo-Saxon monastery at Eynesbury in which were housed the bones of Saint Neot, a revered Cornish monk who died around 875.

The Priory Centre stands on the banks of the River Great Ouse that was a significant means of communication, trade and transport from those early times and which was greatly improved for trade from the 17 th century. It stands on a historic site which has included a Bell Foundry and a Brewery.

The Market Square has enjoyed a market charter since 1137 and today the area bustles with activity, markets and entertainment. The Priory Centre, situated just 200 yards from the Town Square , contributes much to the leisure and economic fabric of this, the largest town in Cambridgeshire, and it's situation by the river and adjacent parkland underlines the attractiveness of the area.
