In 2000, a project began to bring a community/youth centre to the Eaton Socon area of St Neots. A one acre site off The Maltings in Eaton Ford, which was owned by the Town Council, was felt to be an ideal situation for the new building. Consultation with local residents, organisations and authorities showed a requirement for a venue and meeting place for people of all ages, from pre-school to the elderly.
Funding was obtained from Cambridgeshire County Council (£100,000), Huntingdonshire District Council (£30,000) and a Landfill Communities Fund from Waste Recycling Group (via WREN) of £45,000.
The Centre was officially opened by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester on 23 April 2010. It is a modern design, incorporating a purpose built pre-school children’s area, 2 business meeting rooms and a largemain hall. The centre is heated by an energy efficient bio-mass boiler and includes many of the latest up to date design features.
The Community Centre is an ideal venue for private functions, regular community group meetings and business conferences.
